Because the giraffe has one of the largest hearts of land mammals and has a long neck to gain perspective, it is used as a symbol of compassion, power-with, focusing on needs, and negotiating strategies to create win/wins. Jackals represent power-over, moralistic judgments, demands, blame and win/lose mentalities. 

While it's easy to fall into right/wrong thinking with giraffe and jackal, the jackal can help guide us to get conscious of our habitual thoughts or words, to look deeper and discover our observations, feelings, needs, and requests. We can learn to love our jackal because it helps us know when something really matters to us.
