Samuel Odhiambo
I am a certified Nonviolent Communication (NVC) trainer and mediator, and am passionate about building meaningful connections and creating positive social change. My journey began in the heart of Nairobi's Mukuru slums, where I was invited to contibute in setting up a youth peace forum in 2013. It was a beautiful experience of joyful learning journey that coincided with, and really supported my CNVC certification. These peace clubs have become amazing tools for promoting ethnic harmony in areas that have unfortunately faced electoral violence in the past. The peace clubs success has inspired similar initiatives across ten other countries in the Great Lakes and Horn of Africa regions.
In Kenya, I have had the privilege of working with some Turkana communities in an area sadly troubled by conflicts arising from pastoral disputes. It has been eye opening to contribute to transformative connections that bring awareness to life alienating cultural practices and pave the way for enriching human connections! I am also excited to share that since 2017, I've been deeply involved in a justice and peace initiative in the English-speaking Cameroon region. in 2023 we had an online Justice and peace conferwnce centred on empathy as a tool for healing, and an in person first of a kind all Black trainer conference in Yaounde, Cameroon, bringing together 30 grass roots peace enthusiasts from Africa.
I've also had the incredible opportunity to contribute to various International Intensive Trainings (IITs) and related events both as an organizer and trainer. In 2017, I had the privilege of co-organizing the Kenyan IIT, and served as a trainer at both the hybrid 2021 Kenyan pre-IIT and IITs in Austria and Argentina. These experiences have deepened my perspective and strengthened my dedication to nurturing empathy and understanding in communities worldwide.
Nowadays, I also focus on brining a consciousness of needs to purpose driven organizations within Eastern Africa and the Global North.
