Acting a third party is an opportunity to lend your communication skills to others in difficult moments. To be a mediator is meaningful (although often challenging) as you are contributing to peace, compassion and care between people.

To take the role of a mediator  is a way to challenge your own communication skills, as well as ability to take in others perspecives, get to know your own inner dialogue and grow in empathy and expression.

In this program you will have a chance to learn, experience and practise mediation skills. We will practise informal mediation as well as formal mediation, reconciliation as well as mediation around a certain dilemma. We will form a group that support the learning from inside out. Welcome to a year-long practical training based on learning mediation skills with the approach of Nonviolent Communication (NVC).

First part: navigation with maps, skill-training, creating clarity through key differentiations and litterature. We touch on areas such as how shame influences conflict, trust-building in mediation, perspective taking, group developmental processes etc.

Second part consist of mediation practice, feedback with video-recordings, and Q/A with trainers. Learning mediation is similar to learning a music instrument. It might help to have a theoretical understanding and at the same time it is from the skills practise your ability from. Our advice is to apply to this training only if you are ready to dive into this.

We start out in August with leaderled sessions to get everybody going. After this small mediation groups will be formed and you will get a structure for your practise. The practise is central if you want to really integrate mediation. Then follows periods of practise and periods of presentations of new parts of how to approach mediation. The last part of the training, summer of 2025 has a long structured practise period that you in your smaller groups can plan as it fits you best. During this period you can film sessions where you mediate and share it, get feedback and suggestions on what to work on.

We will have a group forum where you can post questions, reflections, learnings, and where we trainers will take part and answers with words or small films or recordings.

You will get a specific workbook (pdf) filled with practises and learning structure that will be our backbone throughout the training. It covers all the basics plus a lot more.)

Our training is most beneficial if you are willing to, try, and try again, learn from failures, receiving feedback and asking questions and then do it all again. (Perfection is a moving target). It seems like most people can learn this skill if they do put some effort into it. So a warm welcome to an amazing adventure.

The training is partly based on the book by Liv Larsson A Helping Hand (available in Swedish, German, English, Dari, Dutch, Polish and Finnish). We recommend you to read the book as part of your preparation for the training.

(If you want to take part of the training and think you can benefit from it without the 10 requested days of training (maybe because you work as a mediator or of some other reason) please contact us before applying, so that we can decide about this together.)

Scholarships

If you want to join the program but you don't have the money we ask for you can send us a message with answers to the questions: How will you use the training, and who will benefit from you getting the training? and How much can you pay? We can give scholarships only when and if we have enough paying participants so we recommend you to ask in other places for support and not relying on that you will receive one from us.
